Osteboe Condolences

Harlow Beck “Bud” Osteboe, Wilton … age 89, died on February 25, 2025 following a short illness. After five years as a U.S. Air Force pilot flying B-25s, he returned to Minnesota to pursue a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Minnesota while serving in the Minnesota Air National Guard flying KC-97 aircraft. His Guard unit was activated for a year of duty in September 1961 in response to the Second Berlin Crisis.

Horvath Condolences

William “Bill” Horvath, Stevens Point … age 87, died on May 22, 2025, while under the care of hospice and family. He graduated in 1962 from UW-Stevens Point with a B.S. in English and Conservation. He pursued additional education at the University of Michigan and graduated with his M.A. in Natural Resource Management. On August 19, 1961, he married Nancy M. Damrau at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Red Flag Warning for Northern Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in conjunction with the National Weather Service, has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Monday, May 12, 2025 from noon to 9 p.m. for the following counties in northern Wisconsin: Ashland, Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Dunn, Florence, Forest, Iron, Langlade, Lincoln, Marinette, Oneida, Pierce, Polk, Price, Rusk, Sawyer, St. Croix, Vilas and Washburn.

Wisconsin Experiencing Elevated Fire Danger This Entire Week Burn Permits Suspended In 30 Counties MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) asks the public to check fire conditions before conducting outdoor burning activities. If you are in an area of High or Very High fire danger, stay vigilant and avoid outdoor burning. Spring is the most critical fire season in Wisconsin. So far in 2025, 658 wildfires have burned 2,220 acres of land.

Rotstop® C is no longer available HRD Committee members, We just found out that Rotstop® C is no longer available for purchase in North America. The decision to remove Rotstop® C from the North America market was made by the manufacturer, Lallemand Plant Care in December 2024. It sounded that it was a business decision. If you already have the product, you can still use it in the field.

Swoboda Condolences

Jelmer “Gus” Swoboda, Green Bay and Longboat Key, FL … age 89, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, March 14, 2025. We will miss him, but we will find solace in a life well lived. His 9-year battle with Parkinson’s disease is finally over. He can now join his wife Penny in heaven.

Lansing Condolences

Marvin Lansing, Knapp and Eau Claire…age 92, died peacefully on March 5, 2025, surrounded by family in his assisted living apartment at Caretta Senior Living in Eau Claire. Marvin was an educator, school administrator, and then became superintendent of schools in the Eau Claire School District. He began his 21-year tenure there in 1967.

Samsel Condolences

Janet Samsel, Hancock… age 90,  a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Hancock on April 1, 2025. When Janet and her husband, Clyde, moved from Racine to Hancock to start Samsel Sawmill & Millwork, Janet became the office manager. She continued to dedicate herself to the family business until only days before her death. Her primary vocation, however, was being an exceptional mom, homemaker, and wife.
