DNR’s Alignment Plan and WWOA’s Response

In July 2015, the WI DNR launched its Strategic Alignment Effort, rolling out an interim reporting structure and embarking on a Core Work Analysis effort.  During the second half of 2015, the DNR held internal exercises to determine core functions, supporting processes, and key outputs and outcomes.  Recommendations were created and feedback was solicited from DNR staff.

In March 2016 the WI DNR released a Summary of DNR Core Work Analysis Results.

During a Forestry Roundtable with DNR Secretary Stepp and Chief Forester Paul DeLong a presentation on the Department and Division of Forestry Alignment Proposals was given to forestry community partners including WWOA, represented by Vice President Steve Ring and executive director Nancy Bozek.

Also during the Roundtable, the Division of Forestry distributed and proposed the DNR Alignment, Division of Forestry proposal: Decreased Investment in MFL & Increased Investment in Private Forestry (nonMFL).

Subsequently, the WWOA Board of Directors spent many hours meeting and discussing these documents which will determine the direction of the DNR and Division of Forestry for years to come.  The Board, after much deliberation, provided a thoughtful and lengthy response to DNR on behalf of WWOA members and private woodland owners across the state.
